Best AI for Tradespeople
AI for tradespeople and contractors ranked on user ratings and expert reviews: field service software compared on published prices and the AI each ships for call answering, quoting, scheduling and admin, plus what AI is useful for in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, roofing and landscaping, the AU, NZ and UK options, and using ChatGPT and Claude for quotes and emails.
Quick answer: The best AI for tradespeople for most trade businesses is Jobber, because it pairs the strongest all-round user ratings in the category (4.6 from 1,487 reviews on Capterra, 4.6 from 530 on G2 and 4.8 from about 21,000 ratings on the App Store) with published prices for its AI, including an AI Receptionist listed at $29 a month as an add-on and AI-drafted quotes from the Connect plan. It was close: Housecall Pro has the larger Capterra base (4.7 from 2,749 reviews), includes its AI team on every plan and is the better pick for small HVAC and plumbing shops, but it does not publish the price of CSR AI, its call-answering agent. For contractors running ten or more trucks, ServiceTitan is the better choice, because it has the deepest AI for larger residential and commercial shops, including the Max agent package opened to every residential contractor on 6 October 2026, at a price that is quote only. The caveat: no independent benchmark of AI features in trade software exists, so these picks rest on user ratings and expert reviews of the whole platform, not tests of the AI alone.
This page ranks AI for running a trade business: the field service management (FSM) software that plumbers, electricians, HVAC technicians, roofers, landscapers and other home services businesses use to answer calls, book and dispatch jobs, quote, invoice and get paid, with AI built in. It also covers what AI is actually useful for in each trade, and how contractors use general assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude. Australian, New Zealand and UK readers will find the local job management apps in their own entries below. Five pages sit next to this one, and each does a different job:
- Best AI for construction ranks builder and general-contractor software: estimating and takeoff from drawings, scheduling, site monitoring, safety and document control. Commercial project work belongs there; service and repair work belongs here.
- Best AI quoting software compares quoting tools in full, across trade quoting, sales quoting and manufacturing. This page summarises quoting only as one job inside an FSM platform.
- Best AI receptionists ranks standalone AI answering services. This page covers the call-answering agents built into trade software and summarises the rest.
- Best AI accounting software ranks the ledgers, such as Xero and QuickBooks Online, that trade software syncs invoices into.
- Best AI chatbots ranks general assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude. This page covers how trade businesses use them, and their business-plan prices.
Which one should you pick?
| If you need | Pick | Entry price | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| The best all-round AI for a small trade business | Jobber | $29 a month billed annually (Core, 1 user); AI Receptionist $29 a month add-on | Capterra 4.6 (1,487); G2 4.6 (530); App Store 4.8 (about 21,000 ratings); Capterra’s August 2026 small-business shortlist |
| An AI team included in every plan, for HVAC and plumbing shops | Housecall Pro | $59 a month billed annually (Basic, 1 user) | Capterra 4.7 (2,749); App Store 4.6 (about 31,000 ratings); Tech.co’s best overall HVAC and plumbing software |
| AI agents for a contractor with 10-plus technicians | ServiceTitan | Quote only | G2 4.4 (377); Capterra 4.3 (342); Forbes Advisor’s best plumbing software for scalability |
| An AI dispatcher that answers calls, texts and emails | Workiz | Quote only | G2 4.5 (247); Capterra 4.4 (218); Forbes Advisor’s best for real-time job dispatching |
| Unlimited users at a flat monthly price | Service Fusion | $208 a month billed annually (Starter) | Capterra 4.3 (308); Forbes Advisor 4.3 for field service and plumbing software |
How trade software uses AI now
Three things define what a contractor is buying when they buy “AI for my business”.
Every major FSM platform now answers calls with AI. The single most common AI feature in trade software is a voice agent that picks up when the owner cannot, because the phone is where trade businesses lose work. Workiz says its analysis of 150,000 service business calls found that 40% of inbound calls go unanswered, a vendor figure that has not been independently audited.
| Vendor | AI launch | Date | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Housecall Pro | AI Team (business coach, analyst, customer service representative, marketer, product assistant) available | 15 May 2024 | PHCP Pros |
| Jobber | Jobber Copilot, a free AI assistant in beta for US and Canadian customers | October 2024 | HVAC Informed |
| Workiz | Genius Answering with “Jessica”, an AI dispatcher that answers calls and books jobs | 4 December 2024 | ACHR News |
| Jobber | Receptionist, an AI that answers calls and texts, generally available | 18 August 2025 | Plumbing & Mechanical |
| ServiceTitan | Atlas, an AI assistant that runs reports, finds jobs and dispatches technicians from typed or spoken commands, and the Max programme, at Pantheon 2025 | September 2025 | Contractor |
| Jobber | Jobber Voice (spoken commands in the mobile app), Campaign Generator and AI-drafted quotes | 6 October 2025 | Landscape Management |
| Housecall Pro | Analyst AI, Marketing AI’s “Write it for me” and a Bluon integration for HVAC equipment data | 30 October 2025 | Mechanical Hub |
| Housecall Pro | Preview of its “largest AI product release to date” at the Built to Last Spring Summit, without published details | 4 June 2026 | PHCP Pros |
| Jobber | Jobber Teammate, an AI that prepares quotes, campaigns and weather reschedules for approval, in beta | 25 September 2026 | Landscape Management |
| ServiceTitan | Max agent package opened to every residential contractor; Atlas mobile app and Homh, a booking channel for AI assistants, launched | 6 October 2026 | ServiceTitan |
Assistants turned into agents that prepare work for approval. Jobber Teammate drafts quotes and fills schedule gaps with campaigns, then brings each one “to a service pro ready for review and approval”, according to Jobber. ServiceTitan describes Max as an “Agentic Operating System” whose agents draw on context across demand, field and office, and its 6 October 2026 release lists a daily log agent and an invoice review agent as live, with a collections agent and an accounts-payable autopilot “expected to come soon”.
AI search became a lead source. ServiceTitan’s Homh makes participating contractors discoverable and bookable inside ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude, with confirmed appointments written straight into ServiceTitan, according to ServiceTitan. NiceJob now sells its review pages on the claim that they can be cited by AI search tools.
How we ranked AI for tradespeople
A tool is ranked only when there is more than one independent assessment of it from more than one kind of source, following the method on how we rank. For trade software, the evidence available is:
- User ratings with volume. Star ratings and review counts from Capterra, G2, the Apple App Store and Trustpilot, taken from each product’s own page.
- Expert reviews. Forbes Advisor’s rankings of field service software (verified 29 September 2024), plumbing software (1 November 2024) and lawn care software (2 November 2024), and its Jobber review (12 March 2025); Conor Cawley’s Tech.co rankings of HVAC software and plumbing software, both last updated 2 January 2024; and Emilie Audubert’s Capterra analysis of field service software for small businesses, published 26 August 2026 from 1,755 verified reviews.
- Community threads. Named discussions among working contractors, including an r/ProHVACR thread on what HVAC shops pay for FSM software (11 June 2024) and a Mike Holt Forum thread on using ChatGPT for estimating (started 15 September 2025).
Five limits apply:
- No independent benchmark of AI features in trade software exists. No credible independent publisher has run a controlled test of AI receptionists, AI quote drafting or AI dispatch across FSM platforms.
- The expert reviews are old and affiliate-funded. Forbes Advisor’s rankings were last verified between September 2024 and March 2025 and say Forbes Advisor “earns a commission from partner links”. Tech.co’s rankings were last updated in January 2024 and disclose referral fees. None of them tests the AI features launched since.
- The expert reviews disagree. Forbes Advisor’s September 2024 field service ranking placed Housecall Pro seventh and Jobber eighth of eight, behind GorillaDesk, RazorSync and FieldPulse, while Tech.co named Housecall Pro best overall for HVAC and plumbing and Forbes Advisor named Jobber second-best lawn care software.
- User ratings cover the whole product. A Capterra or App Store rating for Jobber or Housecall Pro reflects years of scheduling and invoicing use, most of it before the AI features existed.
- Some reviews are incentivised. Capterra notes that some ServiceTitan reviews are vendor-referred with an incentive, which may lift the positive share.
Two platforms that contractors often shortlist are not ranked here. FieldEdge has independent ratings (4.1 from 313 reviews on Capterra and 4.0 from 87 on G2), but its homepage lists no AI features. Australian and New Zealand platforms such as Tradify, ServiceM8, Fergus and simPRO lack independent assessments from more than one kind of source, and appear under “Other tools worth knowing”.
Vendors’ own claims, such as customer counts, revenue uplift and time-saved figures, appear on this page labelled as claims and did not count towards a ranking.
Best AI for tradespeople ranked

Review counts are in brackets. App Store figures are for each vendor’s main US iPhone app. Business sizes reflect each vendor’s plan limits and positioning, not a published cap.
The best AI for tradespeople, reviewed
1. Jobber: best AI for most trade businesses
What the AI does. Jobber’s Receptionist answers calls and texts 24 hours a day, books visits, takes requests, texts callers who hang up and transfers calls when a caller uses a keyword the owner sets. Receptionist became generally available on 18 August 2025 and provides transcripts, summaries and recordings of each conversation. Jobber Voice, launched on 6 October 2025 on all plans, takes spoken commands in the mobile app for more than 100 tasks, such as sending an invoice or getting directions to the next job. Jobber’s AI automations turn new job requests into draft quotes from existing templates and past quotes on the Connect, Grow and Plus plans. Jobber Teammate, in beta since 25 September 2026, sends a morning digest of money collected and outstanding, prepares quotes and marketing campaigns for approval, and learns routines such as rescheduling for weather.
Independent evidence.
- Jobber holds a Capterra rating of 4.6 from 1,487 reviews, with 4.6 for ease of use and 4.6 for customer service.
- Jobber holds a G2 rating of 4.6 from 530 reviews, the highest G2 rating of the ranked platforms.
- Jobber’s iPhone app holds a 4.8 rating from about 21,000 App Store ratings.
- Jobber holds a Trustpilot TrustScore of 4.2 from 233 reviews.
- Capterra’s August 2026 analysis of small-business field service software includes Jobber as strong for home service businesses, “especially quote-to-invoice workflows”, and notes that per-user pricing rises with team size.
- Forbes Advisor ranks Jobber second-best lawn care software, scoring 4.2 of 5 (2 November 2024), and scores Jobber 4.0 of 5 in its standalone review (12 March 2025), which does not mention AI.
- In an r/ProHVACR thread of 11 June 2024, HVAC contractors comparing FSM costs recommended Jobber as the affordable option.
Pricing. Jobber publishes its prices. Core costs $29 a month billed annually, $39 on a one-year commitment or $49 with no commitment, for one user. Connect starts at $99 a month billed annually for one user, Grow at $149 and Plus at $399 for five users, and each extra user costs $29 a month. The pricing page lists the AI Receptionist at $29 a month as an add-on and includes it in Plus. A Jobber community post from Jobber’s product team describes an earlier three-month promotional price for Receptionist, so confirm the add-on price at sign-up. The Marketing Suite costs $99 a month as an add-on outside Plus. Jobber offers a 14-day free trial of the Grow plan with no credit card.
Watch out for. Jobber Copilot launched in October 2024 as a beta for US and Canadian customers only, and Jobber’s Receptionist page shows demo numbers only for the US and Canada and does not list other countries. Jobber Teammate is in beta, and Jobber has not published its price. Forbes Advisor’s September 2024 field service ranking placed Jobber last of eight, at 4.0 of 5.
Vendor claims. Jobber said Receptionist had handled more than 200,000 conversations by its general-availability launch in August 2025, and cites research, from an unnamed source, that 96% of home service consumers say response time influences their purchasing decisions.
Why it’s number one. Jobber and Housecall Pro were close. Jobber wins on breadth of independent evidence, with the higher G2 rating from more than twice as many reviews, the higher App Store rating and a place in Capterra’s August 2026 shortlist, and on price transparency, because it publishes the price of its AI Receptionist and starts at half Housecall Pro’s entry price. Housecall Pro wins on Capterra volume and is the better pick for small HVAC and plumbing shops.
2. Housecall Pro: best AI for small HVAC and plumbing shops
What the AI does. Housecall Pro’s AI Team has five members: CSR AI answers calls, books jobs and keeps a call log; Analyst AI builds custom reports from business data; Marketing AI drafts emails, service descriptions and review responses; Coach AI gives business and hiring guidance; and Help AI supports setup. Housecall Pro says every AI Team member is included free with an account except CSR AI, an optional add-on. Housecall Pro’s fall 2025 release added a Bluon integration that lets HVAC technicians scan an equipment nameplate to find specifications and replacement parts from a database of more than 20 million models.
Independent evidence.
- Housecall Pro holds a Capterra rating of 4.7 from 2,749 reviews, the largest Capterra base of the ranked platforms, with 4.6 for ease of use and 4.7 for customer service.
- Housecall Pro’s iPhone app holds a 4.6 rating from about 31,000 App Store ratings, the largest App Store base of the ranked platforms.
- Housecall Pro holds a G2 rating of 4.3 from 208 reviews.
- Tech.co names Housecall Pro the best overall HVAC software and the best overall plumbing software, from a comparison of 18 providers last updated on 2 January 2024.
- Forbes Advisor names Housecall Pro best for mobile service management, scoring 4.1 of 5 (29 September 2024).
Pricing. Housecall Pro publishes its prices: Basic costs $59 a month billed annually for one user, Essentials $149 for five users and Max $299 for eight users, with extra users on Max at $35 a month. Monthly billing costs more, at $79, $189 and $329. The pricing page lists “AI team members to automate your work” on every plan. Housecall Pro does not publish the price of CSR AI, and its help centre sends buyers to sales. Housecall Pro offers a 14-day free trial of the Max plan with no credit card.
Watch out for. Housecall Pro holds a Trustpilot TrustScore of 3.0 from 573 reviews, the lowest of the ranked platforms, and several Capterra reviewers report sales calls continuing after they asked to be removed. Housecall Pro’s help centre lists CSR AI’s handling of texts, Spanish conversations and job inbox integration as “coming soon”. Housecall Pro previewed its “largest AI product release to date” at its June 2026 summit without publishing what it contains.
Vendor claims. Housecall Pro says its trade professionals have served one in four American homes.
3. ServiceTitan: best AI for contractors with 10-plus technicians
What the AI does. ServiceTitan’s AI centres on Atlas, an assistant announced at Pantheon 2025 that runs reports, finds jobs, dispatches technicians and guides workflows from typed or spoken commands, and can act directly, for example by throttling marketing spend when schedules are full. On 6 October 2026, ServiceTitan opened Max, “the fully loaded version of ServiceTitan’s Agentic Operating System”, to every residential contractor, started a limited Max pilot for commercial and roofing contractors, launched an Atlas mobile app that answers owners’ questions about sales and revenue, and gave its AI customer service agents access to Adaptive Capacity, ServiceTitan’s scheduling intelligence, for booking.
Independent evidence.
- ServiceTitan holds a G2 rating of 4.4 from 377 reviews.
- ServiceTitan holds a Capterra rating of 4.3 from 342 reviews, with 4.0 for customer service and 3.8 for value for money, the lowest value score of the ranked platforms.
- Forbes Advisor names ServiceTitan the best plumbing software for scalability, scoring 4.2 of 5 (1 November 2024).
- In the r/ProHVACR thread of June 2024, one contractor reported paying about $1,800 a month for three office accounts and six technicians and called it cheaper than hiring another office employee, while another estimated about $400 per technician and said it had paid for itself.
Pricing. ServiceTitan publishes no prices and quotes every customer across its Starter, Essentials and The Works tiers, according to Capterra. ServiceTitan’s management said on its fiscal third-quarter 2026 earnings call in December 2025 that it had not yet optimised pricing and packaging for its AI and was still testing Max pricing in a pilot of 50 customers.
Watch out for. ServiceTitan’s technician app, ServiceTitan Field, holds a 3.5 rating from about 5,300 App Store ratings, and the older ServiceTitan Mobile app holds 2.9 from about 1,700, the weakest mobile ratings of the ranked platforms. Capterra reviewers report bugs after updates, a steep learning curve and difficult contract cancellation terms, and ServiceTitan offers no free trial, according to Capterra. ServiceTitan’s own release warns that features marked “coming soon” may not be delivered on time or at all.
Vendor claims. ServiceTitan said on its fiscal third-quarter 2026 earnings call that customer demand for AI virtual agents that answer calls is “very high”.
4. Workiz: best AI dispatcher across calls, texts and email
What the AI does. Workiz’s Genius Answering, launched on 4 December 2024, uses an AI agent called Jessica to answer calls, reply to texts and emails, book jobs into the online-booking calendar and reschedule or add notes for verified clients. Owners can limit the services Jessica offers, set pricing answers and switch on automatic assignment to technicians’ calendars. Workiz’s Pro plan adds Genius Leads and Genius Scheduling, and Genius Marketing includes an AI writer and designer.
Independent evidence.
- Workiz holds a G2 rating of 4.5 from 247 reviews.
- Workiz holds a Capterra rating of 4.4 from 218 reviews, with 4.3 for customer service.
- Forbes Advisor names Workiz the best field service software for real-time job dispatching, scoring 4.2 of 5 (29 September 2024).
- In the r/ProHVACR thread, one contractor reported paying about $1,500 a quarter for five logins in June 2024.
Pricing. Workiz publishes no prices: every plan on its pricing page says “Request pricing”, with a 7-day free trial. Genius Answering needs a Genius Phone plan and can run on a dedicated plan or on-demand usage charges, and Workiz publishes neither price.
Watch out for. When an account passes its monthly conversation limit, Genius Answering stops answering and calls fall through to the next step in the call flow, which may be voicemail, according to Workiz’s help centre. Each AI agent handles one call at a time. Workiz’s pricing page lists English, Spanish and French for Genius Answering; its help centre lists English and Spanish.
Vendor claims. Workiz says it has more than 120,000 customers, that Genius Answering can automate up to 80% of call-management tasks and that it can raise top-line revenue by up to 30%.
5. Service Fusion: best for unlimited users at a flat price
What the AI does. Service Fusion sells ServiceCall.ai, which combines VoIP calling, AI and field service tools, and lists an AI Phone Answering Service in its product menu. Service Fusion publishes no detailed description of what either AI product does.
Independent evidence.
- Service Fusion holds a Capterra rating of 4.3 from 308 reviews, with 4.3 for ease of use and customer service.
- Forbes Advisor names Service Fusion best for inventory tracking, scoring 4.3 of 5 (29 September 2024), and best plumbing software for versatility, also 4.3 (1 November 2024).
- Capterra’s August 2026 analysis includes Service Fusion for HVAC, plumbing and electrical firms because of flat-rate pricing with unlimited users, and notes that the system can be slow.
Pricing. Service Fusion publishes its prices: Starter costs $208 a month billed annually or $245 monthly, Plus $325 or $382, and Pro $533 or $627, with unlimited users on every plan. Service Fusion does not publish the price of ServiceCall.ai or its AI phone answering.
Watch out for. Service Fusion’s AI is the least documented of the ranked platforms. Capterra reviewers report slow performance after updates and sync problems with accounting software.

AI call answering for trade businesses
Missed calls are the most expensive admin problem in a trade business, because the caller with a burst pipe or a dead furnace rings the next contractor. There are two ways to buy AI call answering:
- The agent built into your job software. Jobber Receptionist, Housecall Pro CSR AI, Workiz Genius Answering and ServiceTitan’s AI virtual agents book straight into the same calendar the technicians work from, see the customer’s history and need no integration.
- A standalone AI receptionist. Standalone services forward your number to an AI that takes messages, texts booking links or books into a calendar, and they work with any software or none. They are ranked, with published per-minute prices and worked examples, on our best AI receptionists page.
| Built-in agent | What it books into | Price | Limits stated by the vendor |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jobber Receptionist | Jobber requests and schedule | $29 a month add-on; included in Plus | Handles multiple calls at once; escalates on keywords |
| Housecall Pro CSR AI | Housecall Pro schedule | Not published | Texts, Spanish and job inbox listed as “coming soon”; failed bookings are passed back for a callback |
| Workiz Genius Answering | Workiz online-booking calendar | Not published; needs Genius Phone | One call per agent at a time; stops answering above the monthly conversation limit |
| ServiceTitan AI virtual agents | ServiceTitan schedule, using Adaptive Capacity since October 2026 | Not published | Sold within the Pro portfolio |
| Joist AI Receptionist | Joist leads | $49 a month | Answers missed calls and captures leads |
| Roofr AI Receptionist | Roofr jobs | $99 a month, $85 billed yearly | Answers calls, books visits and gives quotes |
Three facts decide which route fits:
- A built-in agent is the simpler choice if your job software already holds your schedule, because the booking lands where the crew works without a second system.
- A standalone service is the better choice if you run no job software, or if you need published per-minute pricing, because four of the six built-in agents above have no published price.
- Configure the hand-off to a human before going live. Every built-in agent above can transfer or flag a call, and Housecall Pro’s CSR AI passes failed bookings back by text for a callback, according to its help centre.
Disclosure and call-recording rules for AI phone answering, including the FCC’s ruling on AI voices in outbound calls, are covered on the best AI receptionists page.
Quoting, invoicing and payments
Quoting. Every ranked platform builds quotes from a price book, and the AI layer now drafts them. Jobber turns new job requests into draft quotes from templates and past quotes and alerts the owner when a quote passes a set threshold. Tradify’s SmartTools apply AI to quoting on its Plus plan, and Joist creates estimates and invoices with AI from its $10 Basics plan. Roofing quotes from satellite measurements are covered in the roofing section below. The full comparison of quoting tools, including standalone trade quoting apps, is on our best AI quoting software page.
Invoicing and payments. Invoicing, online card payments and payment reminders are standard in every ranked platform. Online payments grew by roughly 6% as a share of all Jobber-processed transactions in the second quarter of 2026 compared with a year earlier, according to Jobber’s Home Service Economic Report. Jobber announced Jobber Bookkeeping on 25 September 2026, which captures employee time, expenses, receipts and supplier invoices and, Jobber says, professionally manages customers’ books. Tradify’s SmartRead captures bill costs with AI, and Fergus lists card payments at 2.95% plus $0.30 a transaction.
Accounting. Trade software sends invoices to an accounting ledger rather than replacing it. Jobber’s app lists integrations with QuickBooks Online, Gusto and Stripe, ServiceM8 is a Xero preferred app and a certified MYOB add-on, according to ServiceM8, and several FieldEdge reviewers on Capterra single out its QuickBooks sync. The AI in the ledgers themselves is ranked on our best AI accounting software page.
Reviews and marketing
Local trades win work on Google reviews and referrals, and AI is now built into the tools that ask for them.
| Tool | AI marketing feature | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Jobber Marketing Suite | Campaign Generator builds branded email campaigns from a described goal; Teammate prepares campaigns to fill schedule gaps | $99 a month add-on; included in Plus |
| Housecall Pro Marketing AI | Drafts emails, service descriptions and review responses | Included in the AI Team |
| Workiz Genius Marketing | Campaigns, reputation manager, AI writer and designer | Add-on; price not published |
| NiceJob | AI-written review replies and AI-written email broadcasts | Pro, $125 a month |
| Podium | AI-generated responses and AI text-marketing campaigns; AI Employee add-on | Quote only |
| Joist | Joist Reviews and social integrations | Elite, $32 a month |
General marketing tools are ranked on our best AI for marketing and best AI for social media pages, and website builders on best AI website builder.
Using ChatGPT and Claude for quotes, emails and paperwork
Many contractors use a general AI assistant alongside their job software to write quote cover letters, scopes of work, customer emails, job descriptions, website copy and replies to reviews. General assistants are ranked on our best AI chatbots page; this table gives their business-plan prices.
| Assistant | Plan for a trade business | Price |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT Business | Shared workspace for a team | $20 per user a month billed annually, $25 monthly; minimum 2 users (OpenAI Help Center) |
| Claude Pro | One owner-operator | $17 a month billed annually, $20 monthly (Claude pricing) |
| Claude Team | 2 to 150 users | $20 per seat a month billed annually, $25 monthly (Claude pricing) |
Electricians on the Mike Holt Forum, in a thread started on 15 September 2025, report using ChatGPT to organise and sanity-check estimates. Members in that thread say ChatGPT is not reliable for material prices or labour hours, and one member, winnie, wrote on 3 November 2025 that “the burden of verification greatly reduces the benefits of the tool”. An Electrical Industry News Week article of 2 February 2026, written by the chief executive of Patabid, an estimating software vendor, reaches the same conclusion: AI suits drafting scope letters, emails and tender summaries, but “AI is not going to replace your estimator”, because it lacks local labour rates and supplier pricing.
Three facts decide whether a general assistant is enough:
- A general assistant does not know your prices, your customers or your schedule. It drafts the words; your price book and your job software supply the numbers.
- A general assistant is not a code reference. Electrical, plumbing and gas codes vary by jurisdiction and edition, and no independent test shows a general assistant answering code questions reliably, so check every code answer against the adopted code book.
- Customer details belong on a business plan, not a personal account. The Patabid article advises against pasting confidential client or pricing data into public tools; ChatGPT Business and Claude Team carry business data terms.
AI for plumbers
Plumbing is an emergency-call trade, so the AI that pays for itself first is the AI that answers the phone. Plumbing businesses lose the job to whichever contractor picks up, which is why every ranked platform now sells an AI call-answering agent.
| Plumbing job | What AI does | Tools on this page that do it |
|---|---|---|
| After-hours and on-the-job calls | Answers, qualifies the emergency, books or escalates | Jobber Receptionist, Housecall Pro CSR AI, Workiz Genius Answering, ServiceTitan AI virtual agents |
| Quotes and good-better-best options | Drafts quotes from past jobs and price-book items | Jobber AI quote drafts, Tradify SmartTools, Joist |
| Job notes and customer summaries | Turns spoken notes into job records and post-job summaries | Jobber Voice, simPRO JobScribe and JobBrief, Fergus Go Assistant |
| Business reporting | Answers questions about revenue, unpaid invoices and technician performance | Housecall Pro Analyst AI, ServiceTitan Atlas, Jobber custom report builder |
The best pick for a plumbing business. Housecall Pro is Tech.co’s best overall plumbing software, and ServiceTitan is Forbes Advisor’s best plumbing software for scalability. A one- to five-van plumbing business should start with Jobber or Housecall Pro; a plumbing company running ten or more vans with a dispatcher should price ServiceTitan.
AI for electricians
Electrical contractors split into service and repair work, which runs on the same FSM software as plumbing, and project work, which needs takeoff and estimating from drawings.
| Electrical job | What AI does | Tools |
|---|---|---|
| Service calls and bookings | Answers and books calls | Jobber Receptionist, Housecall Pro CSR AI, Workiz Genius Answering |
| Takeoff from drawings | Counts symbols on CAD drawings and PDFs for bids | Bidflow, an electrical estimating copilot from Y Combinator’s Winter 2026 batch; covered in depth on best AI for construction |
| Quote letters, scopes and emails | Drafts the words around a price | ChatGPT, Claude, Jobber AI quote drafts |
| Larger electrical, fire and security contractors | Pre-job briefs, voice job capture, customer summaries | simPRO Simpro Lightning (not ranked) |
The best pick for an electrical business. For residential service electricians, Jobber is the best pick on the evidence above. Electrical contractors who bid commercial projects from drawings need estimating software, which is ranked on best AI for construction, not on this page.
AI for HVAC contractors
HVAC has the most trade-specific AI of any trade on this page, because equipment data, load calculations and maintenance agreements are structured problems.
| HVAC job | What AI or software does | Tools |
|---|---|---|
| Equipment lookup and troubleshooting | Scans a nameplate or model number to return specifications, parts and common faults | Bluon, which claims 35 million models across 268 OEM brands, built into Housecall Pro since October 2025; Bluon’s MasterMechanic AI troubleshooting |
| Load calculations (Manual J, S and D) | Sizes heating and cooling equipment from the building | CoolCalc, $45 per project or $50 per user a month, with LiDAR scanning, satellite tracing and a Zillow integration; CoolCalc does not describe these features as AI |
| Call answering and booking | Books calls into capacity-aware schedules | ServiceTitan AI virtual agents with Adaptive Capacity, Housecall Pro CSR AI, Jobber Receptionist |
| Owner reporting | Answers questions about sales and revenue from company data | ServiceTitan Atlas mobile app, Housecall Pro Analyst AI |
Bluon claims 99% troubleshooting accuracy for MasterMechanic, based on 135,000 tech support calls; this is a vendor figure with no independent test,. CoolCalc says its software is “built on ACCA’s trusted Manual J, S, and D” but does not claim ACCA approval of the software itself.
The best pick for an HVAC business. Housecall Pro is the best pick for small HVAC shops, because it is Tech.co’s best overall HVAC software and its Bluon integration puts equipment data inside the job. ServiceTitan is the better pick for HVAC companies with ten or more technicians, and one HVAC contractor in the r/ProHVACR thread called it “cheaper than hiring another office employee”.
AI for roofing contractors
Roofing has the clearest AI use in the trades: measuring a roof from aerial or satellite imagery instead of climbing it, then quoting from the measurements.
| Tool | What it does | Price | Independent evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Roofr | Roof measurement reports, proposals and job boards, with an Instant Estimator for homeowners and an AI Receptionist add-on | Free Starter plan with $19 reports in 24 hours; $13 reports with 2- or 6-hour delivery on paid plans from $109 a month | G2 4.9 from 45 reviews |
| Hover | 3D exterior and roof models and measurements from smartphone photos | Pay per project, with roofs from $29 to $69 on Starter; Pro $999 a year | Data not available |
| EagleView | Aerial roof measurement reports, Bid Perfect takeoffs and Eagleview Horizon, an agentic AI engine that combines aerial imagery, property data and weather | Not published | Data not available |
| JobNimbus | CRM and job management for roofing and exterior contractors | Not published | G2 4.5 from 144 reviews |
| ServiceTitan | Max agent package in a limited pilot for roofing contractors since 6 October 2026 | Quote only | See the ranked review above |
No independent study compares the measurement accuracy of Roofr, Hover and EagleView.
The best pick for a roofing business. No roofing tool clears the ranking bar on independent evidence. Roofr is the cheapest way to try AI-assisted roof measurement and quoting, because its Starter plan is free and charges $19 a report; a roofing company already on ServiceTitan can ask to join the Max roofing pilot.
AI for landscaping businesses
Landscaping and lawn care run on recurring visits, route density and measured areas, so the useful AI measures properties from imagery and fills the schedule.
| Landscaping job | What AI does | Tools |
|---|---|---|
| Measuring turf, beds and hardscape | Measures properties remotely from aerial imagery for bids | SiteRecon, whose Scout AI measurements in its Plato app include 2 free measurements a month; SiteRecon claims 95% to 98% accuracy |
| Recurring visits and weather reschedules | Reschedules routes around weather and prepares campaigns to fill gaps | Jobber Teammate (beta) |
| Quotes from past jobs | Drafts quotes from templates and past quotes | Jobber AI quote drafts |
| Commercial landscape maintenance | Bidding, job costing and crew management | Aspire, part of the ServiceTitan family; Aspire’s homepage lists no AI features |
Lawn and garden businesses are Jobber’s best-documented segment: Jobber’s Home Service Economic Report for the second quarter of 2026 shows median year-on-year revenue growth for “Green” businesses of 13.8% in April, 10.1% in May and 7.5% in June, a vendor dataset drawn from Jobber’s own customers.
The best pick for a landscaping business. Jobber is the best pick for landscaping and lawn care businesses, because Forbes Advisor ranks it the second-best lawn care software and its Teammate beta automates the weather reschedules that define the trade. Commercial landscape maintenance companies should also price Aspire.

What the research says about AI in the trades
Most published data on AI in the trades comes from the software vendors themselves. Each figure below is labelled with who produced it.
| Source | Finding | Who produced it |
|---|---|---|
| Workiz analysis of service business calls | 40% of inbound calls go unanswered on average, and half of those callers had already booked a competitor by the time they were called back; 150,000 calls analysed | Vendor research (Workiz), published December 2024 |
| Jobber Receptionist launch | 96% of home service consumers say response time influences their purchasing decisions | Vendor (Jobber), citing an unnamed source, August 2025 |
| Jobber Home Service Economic Report, Q2 2026 | Online payments grew about 6% as a share of transactions year on year; the report contains no AI adoption figures | Vendor research (Jobber), drawn from more than 400,000 home service professionals using Jobber, published August 2026 |
| ServiceTitan fiscal Q3 2026 earnings call | Management says customer demand for AI virtual agents that answer calls is “very high”; Max was in a 50-customer pilot | Company (ServiceTitan), December 2025 |
| Capterra field service analysis | Of 1,755 verified reviews from August 2024 to August 2026, Jobber, FieldPulse, Service Fusion and four others met its bar for small businesses | Review platform (Capterra), August 2026 |
| Mike Holt Forum | Electricians report ChatGPT as useful for drafting and cross-checking estimates but unreliable for prices and labour hours | Community thread, September 2025 to February 2026 |
Every figure in this table except the forum thread comes from a company that sells trade software or software reviews, so read the vendor figures as marketing research.
How to choose
- Start from the software that holds your schedule. If your jobs already live in Jobber, Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan or Workiz, switch on that vendor’s AI first, because its call agent books into the same calendar your crew works from.
- Fix the phone first. For most trade businesses the first AI worth paying for is call answering, because it captures jobs that would otherwise go to voicemail; compare built-in agents against the standalone services on best AI receptionists.
- Ask for the AI price in writing. Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan, Workiz and Service Fusion do not publish the price of their call answering, so get the monthly fee, call or conversation limits and overage terms before signing.
- Check which plan carries the feature. Jobber’s AI quote drafts need Connect or above, Tradify’s AI tools need Plus and Workiz’s Genius Scheduling needs Pro.
- Test the hand-off. Ring your own AI agent from a noisy site, ask for a person and check the call reaches you or a teammate.
- Keep pricing and code decisions human. Use ChatGPT or Claude for the words around a quote, and your own price book and the adopted code book for the numbers and the rules.
- Watch the contract. Capterra reviewers of ServiceTitan and FieldEdge report difficult cancellation and billing terms, so read the contract length before onboarding.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best AI for tradespeople?
The best AI for most tradespeople is Jobber, because it holds 4.6 from 1,487 reviews on Capterra, 4.6 from 530 on G2 and 4.8 from about 21,000 App Store ratings, and it publishes the price of its AI Receptionist at $29 a month as an add-on. Housecall Pro was a close second and is the better pick for small HVAC and plumbing shops, and ServiceTitan is the better pick for contractors with ten or more technicians.
What is the best AI for contractors?
For home services contractors who do service and repair work, the best AI is Jobber for small businesses and ServiceTitan for contractors with ten or more technicians. General contractors and builders who need estimating from drawings, scheduling and site monitoring should use the tools ranked on the best AI for construction page instead.
What is the best AI receptionist for contractors?
The best AI receptionist for a contractor already using job software is the one built into that software, because it books into the crew’s own calendar: Jobber Receptionist costs $29 a month as an add-on, while Housecall Pro CSR AI, Workiz Genius Answering and ServiceTitan’s AI virtual agents are priced through sales. Contractors without job software should compare the standalone services ranked on the best AI receptionists page.
What is the best AI for plumbers?
The best AI for small plumbing businesses is Jobber or Housecall Pro, both of which answer calls with AI and book jobs into the schedule; Housecall Pro is Tech.co’s best overall plumbing software. ServiceTitan is the better choice for plumbing companies with ten or more vans and is Forbes Advisor’s best plumbing software for scalability.
What is the best AI for electricians?
The best AI for residential service electricians is Jobber, for call answering, AI-drafted quotes and voice job updates. Electricians who bid projects from drawings need takeoff and estimating tools such as Bidflow, which are covered on the best AI for construction page, and electricians on the Mike Holt Forum report that ChatGPT is useful for drafting but not for pricing or labour hours.
What is the best AI for HVAC companies?
The best AI for small HVAC companies is Housecall Pro, because it is Tech.co’s best overall HVAC software and its Bluon integration, added in October 2025, looks up equipment specifications and parts from a scanned nameplate. ServiceTitan is the better choice for HVAC companies with ten or more technicians, because its Max agents and Atlas assistant cover booking, dispatch and reporting.
What is the best AI for roofing?
No roofing AI tool has enough independent assessment to be ranked, but Roofr is the cheapest to try, with a free Starter plan, $19 roof measurement reports and an AI Receptionist at $99 a month. Hover builds 3D roof models from smartphone photos from $29 a roof on its pay-per-project Starter plan, and EagleView sells aerial measurement reports and its Horizon AI engine at unpublished prices.
What is the best AI for landscaping?
The best AI for landscaping and lawn care is Jobber, because Forbes Advisor ranks it the second-best lawn care software and its Teammate beta reschedules visits for weather. SiteRecon measures turf and beds from aerial imagery for bids, and Aspire, part of the ServiceTitan family, serves commercial landscape maintenance companies.
What is the best AI for tradies in Australia?
Tradify is the best-reviewed job management app for Australian, New Zealand and UK trade businesses, with a Trustpilot rating of 4.8 from 613 reviews and AI quoting and invoicing tools on its Plus plan at $61 per user a month. The main alternatives are ServiceM8, Fergus and simPRO.
Can ChatGPT write quotes for contractors?
ChatGPT can write the words of a quote, such as the scope of work, the cover email and the terms, but it does not know a contractor’s prices, local labour rates or supplier costs. Electricians on the Mike Holt Forum report it as unreliable for material pricing and labour hours, so the numbers should come from the contractor’s own price book or job software.
How much does AI software for a trade business cost?
AI software for a trade business costs from $0 for ServiceM8’s free plan and $10 a month for Joist to quote-only platforms such as ServiceTitan and Workiz. Jobber starts at $29 a month billed annually with its AI Receptionist at $29 a month extra, Housecall Pro starts at $59 a month billed annually with its AI Team included, and Service Fusion starts at $208 a month with unlimited users.
Is Jobber or Housecall Pro better?
Jobber and Housecall Pro are close, and Jobber is the better general pick because it has the higher G2 rating (4.6 from 530 reviews against 4.3 from 208), the higher App Store rating and published AI Receptionist pricing, and it starts at $29 a month against $59. Housecall Pro has the larger Capterra base (4.7 from 2,749 reviews), includes its AI Team on every plan and is Tech.co’s best overall HVAC and plumbing software.
Is ServiceTitan worth it for a small business?
ServiceTitan is built for larger contractors and publishes no prices; contractors in an r/ProHVACR thread in June 2024 reported paying about $400 per technician, and one paid about $1,800 a month for three office users and six technicians. Its Capterra value-for-money score is 3.8, the lowest of the ranked platforms, so businesses with fewer than about ten technicians usually get better value from Jobber or Housecall Pro.
Will AI replace office staff in a trade business?
No independent evidence shows AI replacing trade office staff, and every ranked platform’s AI agents bring work to a person for approval or escalate calls they cannot handle. Jobber says Teammate brings prepared work “to a service pro ready for review and approval”, and Workiz’s Genius Answering stops answering once an account passes its monthly conversation limit.
