Anthropic and OpenAI both cut flagship prices on the same Tuesday
Anthropic shipped Claude Opus 5.5 at $4 and $20 per million tokens, a fifth below Opus 5 and, it says, level with Fable 5.1 on most work, and OpenAI put GPT-6 Sol and Luna on the API the same day at half the price of the models they replace.

Anthropic put claude-opus-5-5 live on Tuesday a fifth below Opus 5’s $5 and $25, with cache reads down 60 per cent to $0.20 per million, and says it matches Claude Fable 5.1 on most work while costing 40 per cent less to run and generating output more than 30 per cent faster than Opus 5. It scores 66.4 per cent on Terminal-Bench 4.0 against Fable 5.1’s 55.8 per cent on Anthropic’s own table. Biology and cybersecurity requests that trip its safeguards are rerouted to Opus 4.8, with full capability available only through Anthropic’s verification programmes. Source
OpenAI halved its API prices with GPT-6 Sol and Luna OpenAI put both models on the API on Tuesday: Sol at $2 and $10 per million input and output tokens against $4 and $20 for GPT-5.6 Sol, and Luna at $0.10 and $0.50 against $0.20 and $1.20. OpenAI credits better caching and inference, says Sol makes about half as many mistakes as its predecessor on factuality evaluations, and is billing the rates as standard rather than introductory. Altman and Amodei brief the UN Security Council on Wednesday France, which holds the Council presidency this month, organised the session and Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot will chair it: Sam Altman before the Council and Dario Amodei remotely, with Hugging Face’s Clément Delangue and Yoshua Bengio alongside them, and DeepSeek and Moonshot invited to make statements. It falls eleven days after Amodei’s call to pace the frontier, which Altman, Musk and Hassabis endorsed the same day. Source
Alibaba unveiled the Zhenwu V900 and a 20GW data centre target At its Apsara Conference in Hangzhou on Tuesday, Alibaba called the Zhenwu V900 China’s most powerful AI chip, and chief executive Eddie Wu said it is three times the performance of the Zhenwu M890, with 216GB of memory, and goes into mass production in the first quarter of 2027. Alibaba Cloud also committed to more than 20 gigawatts of data centre capacity by 2032 and said Qwen 4 is in training; the shares rose in Hong Kong. Source
Alphabet’s Intrinsic open-sourced its robotics platform under Apache 2.0 Announced at ROSCon 2026 in Toronto on Tuesday and on GitHub the same day, Intrinsic Core ships a hardware-agnostic real-time control framework, 6-DoF pose estimation built on Nvidia’s FoundationPose, motion and grasp planning, Gazebo simulation services, camera calibration and ROS-compatible drivers. Intrinsic also released the Open Machine Tending Solution, a reference design for CNC machine tending customisable for FANUC and Universal Robots hardware. Source
Amazon blocked Meta’s Muse agent from shopping on its store Shoppers started hitting the block on Sunday night, two weeks after Muse launched: agents are shown a notice saying “continued access by an unauthorized AI agent violates Amazon’s Conditions of Use, to which our customers have agreed”, and Amazon had first asked Meta to leave Amazon out of Muse’s shopping. Amazon sued Perplexity over its Comet browser in November 2025 and won an injunction that the Ninth Circuit vacated on 4 August, finding it unlikely to show Comet had “accessed” its computers under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act — leaving the contract route it is using here.
