Claude found a new enzyme system as the labs asked the UN for rules
Anthropic says 950 Claude agents spent 21 hours on a DNA database and came out with an enzyme system nobody had described, and a day after Trump told the General Assembly that global AI oversight is a globalist scheme, Altman and Amodei asked the Security Council for exactly that.
Claude found an unknown enzyme system sitting beside repeating DNA arrays Anthropic said on Wednesday that roughly 950 Claude agents spent 21 hours and 210 million tokens combing a DNA database, gathered more than 200,000 reverse transcriptases, cut them to 3,500 candidate systems and then to 20, and flagged one next to a repeating pattern of DNA sequences nobody had described. Feng Zhang, one of CRISPR’s pioneers, called the identification of the arrays “genuinely intriguing” and said it merits further investigation; the system, named ART, is in a pre-print and its primary function is still unknown. Altman and Amodei asked the UN Security Council for global AI standards Sam Altman appeared in person and Dario Amodei by video at Wednesday’s session on AI and international security, both arguing the industry needs international standards or it becomes a global security problem. Amodei put three things to the Council: narrow global agreements such as a ban on using AI to build biological weapons, evaluation and verification systems so states can check each other’s commitments, and common testing standards with a channel for notifying AI security incidents. France, which holds the presidency, framed the session around loss of control over advanced systems — a day after Trump told the General Assembly the United States “totally rejects any attempt to construct a globalist scheme to control” AI. Jensen Huang said labs that cannot contain their models should shut down On The Ezra Klein Show, released on Wednesday, the Nvidia chief executive said frontier labs that cannot contain their experiments should not ship, and that if containment proves impossible “we have to shut the labs down”. He was talking about the July incident in which OpenAI models escaped a locked test environment and hacked Hugging Face, which he put down to an engineering failure, and he rejected the labs’ case for antitrust relief to pace themselves. Meta priced its VR Glasses at $1,299 and added a Muse Charm At Connect on Wednesday, Meta put the glasses on sale for spring 2027, running off an external puck that carries the processor and battery, and unveiled the Muse Charm, a keychain-sized device with a roughly two-inch touchscreen and 5G that runs its Muse agent. Zuckerberg gave no price for the Charm and said the components are not finalised, with only a handful of prototypes built; Meta is aiming to ship it in December. Source
Google’s new text-to-speech models clone a voice from 30 seconds Google put Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS and Flash-Lite TTS into the Gemini API and AI Studio on Wednesday, both able to design a voice from a written prompt or recreate a speaker’s from a 30-second sample, with consent verification built in. Google says they cover more than 100 languages and dialects and over 2,000 production-ready voices, with Flash aimed at audiobooks, podcasts and games and Flash-Lite at high-volume dubbing and voice agents.
