Anthropic targeted a Thanksgiving listing as OpenAI fired three safety researchers

Anthropic aims to start trading before Thanksgiving at up to $2tn Formal marketing could begin the week of 9 November, Bloomberg reported on Thursday, with investors expecting a valuation of $1.8tn to $2tn. Anthropic is still considering its plans and the timing could change. Source

OpenAI fired three safety researchers over alleged leaks to a safety group OpenAI says they mishandled sensitive information; the outside group has not been named. Congressman Greg Casar said it looks like firing whistleblowers and is demanding answers. Source

California’s attorney general subpoenaed OpenAI over the Hugging Face hack Rob Bonta announced it on Thursday, saying developers whose models enable cyberattacks “can and should be held legally accountable”. Source

arXiv now caps each submitter at two papers a month It took 40,363 submissions in September, more than four times the 9,869 of September 2016, and blames AI tools for a flood of low-value papers. Co-authors are not counted, only the person submitting. Source

Google beat two publishers’ antitrust suits over AI Overviews Judge Amit Mehta threw out Chegg’s and Penske Media’s cases against Google, ruling that publishers’ expectation of search traffic “is not an agreement”. He said antitrust law is no substitute for lawmakers dealing with the disruption new technology causes. Source
