Nvidia reported $96.2bn in quarterly revenue and guided to $108bn Revenue for the quarter to 26 July rose 106 per cent year on year, with data centre sales of $89bn up 117 per cent, and the company guided to $108bn for the current quarter while assuming no data centre compute revenue from China at all. Jensen Huang forecast roughly 70 per cent revenue growth in fiscal 2028 — far above estimates — a figure the company itself called supply-constrained. Source

OpenAI’s first chip beats Nvidia’s Blackwell on performance per watt Jalapeño, built with Broadcom and designed solely for LLM inference, out-produced Nvidia’s best GB200 and GB300 systems on output tokens per megawatt across GPT-OSS 120B, DeepSeek R1 and Kimi K2.5 — topping 700 tokens a second per user on R1 without the multi-token prediction its rivals used — on figures OpenAI supplied and SemiAnalysis said on Wednesday it verified in part in the lab. Against Nvidia’s newer Vera Rubin, which uses the same HBM4 memory generation, SemiAnalysis calls the two “head-to-head, producing almost the same number of output tokens per $”. Source

Amazon ordered two million more Nvidia GPUs for 2027 and 2028 AWS said on Wednesday, alongside the earnings call, that it will deploy two million additional Nvidia GPUs across its infrastructure over the two years and will take Nvidia’s new Vera CPUs as well, built for the tool-running and sandboxing work behind agents. The order comes five months after Amazon committed to more than a million GPUs starting this year, a figure the companies say demand has already outrun. Source

The stealth model topping OpenRouter was Z.ai’s GLM-5.3-Flash Z.ai confirmed to Bloomberg on Wednesday that the anonymous “Ox Alpha” model that has been free on OpenRouter is a new GLM, and put the weights out the same evening under an MIT licence. It is a 320bn-parameter mixture of experts activating 18bn per token, takes text, images and video at a million-token context, and the company says it runs on Chinese chips. Source

Amazon is closing Mechanical Turk after 21 years A notice on the site says the crowd-work marketplace Jeff Bezos once called “artificial artificial intelligence” shuts on 30 September, along with SageMaker Ground Truth and Amazon Augmented AI, taking Amazon out of human-data infrastructure altogether. It stopped accepting new customers on 30 July and once had more than 500,000 workers doing tasks for cents; a 2023 study found up to 46 per cent of them were already using AI to do the work. Source

Salesforce made Claude the default model in Slack The “Claudeforce” partnership announced on Wednesday puts a Salesforce plugin with 37 prebuilt sales skills inside Claude — pilot customers now, open beta in September — and makes Claude the default model in Slack and a reasoning model inside Agentforce, served through Amazon Bedrock so it sits within Salesforce’s trust boundary. SoftBank may sell up to $20bn of bonds to pay for OpenAI Bloomberg reported on Wednesday that SoftBank is talking to banks about $10bn to $20bn of dollar and euro bonds, possibly as early as September, to refinance the record $40bn bridge loan it signed earlier this year against its OpenAI stake. A ¥1tn ($6.3bn) Japanese retail bond is already planned for early September and a $10bn margin loan on the same stake was secured this month; SoftBank says nothing has been decided. Source
