Best AI App Builders

Lovable, Replit, Bolt.new and Base44 ranked on user ratings, hands-on expert tests, security record and price, with v0, Google AI Studio and the builders that do not yet clear the ranking bar.

Updated October 2026

Quick answer: The best AI app builder for most people is Lovable, because it has the strongest independent record in the category: 4.2 out of 5 from 1,771 reviews on Trustpilot, where every rival with a large record scores below 3, and first place in Zapier’s hands-on test of more than 50 tools, which called it “the most balanced of the entire lineup”. For building and hosting web and mobile apps in one place, Replit is the better choice, because its Agent 4 builds both from one project with the database, login and hosting included. For developers who want speed and their code in GitHub, Bolt.new is the pick, because Zapier ranks it second and found it “slightly faster” than Lovable. The one caveat: every app builder gets a prototype most of the way and leaves security to you, and a scan of public apps built on these platforms found more than 2,000 vulnerabilities and more than 400 exposed secrets.

This page ranks AI app builders: tools that turn a plain-English description into working software with state, meaning user accounts, a database, logic and a deployed URL. That is a different job from two pages next to it:

What an AI app builder is, and what it is not

An AI app builder is a hosted platform where you describe software in chat and an AI agent writes, runs and deploys it, with a backend you do not have to set up.

PartWhat the builder handlesWhy it matters
FrontendGenerates the screensYou see a working preview as you prompt
Backend and databaseCreates tables and server logicData persists between visits
AuthenticationAdds sign-up and loginEach user sees their own data
HostingPublishes to a live URLOther people can use it
IterationLets you keep changing the app in plain EnglishThe agent edits the existing code instead of starting again

The term most people use for this way of working is “vibe coding”, which Andrej Karpathy coined in February 2025 for building software by describing it and accepting the AI’s code without reading it. Collins English Dictionary named it Word of the Year on 6 November 2025.

An app builder is not a replacement for software engineering on a product with paying customers and sensitive data. Zapier’s testers wrote that these platforms “will get you 70% there” (Zapier), and that Lovable, Bolt.new and Replit all leave security vulnerabilities and complex bugs to you (Zapier). That remaining work is where the tools on our best AI for coding page take over.

What the independent evidence says

User ratings are poor for every builder except Lovable. Trustpilot is open to anyone, and the complaints there are overwhelmingly about credits and billing.

BuilderTrustpilot ratingOne-star shareMost common complaints
Lovable4.2 from 1,771 reviews17%Credits running out fast; billing errors
Replit2.8 from 1,555 reviews34%Unexpected usage bills; the agent fixing one thing and breaking another
Base442.8 from 900 reviews53%The agent failing to follow instructions while using credits; charges after cancellation
Bolt.new1.6 from 204 reviews83%Tokens consumed while the agent fixes its own errors; unanswered support tickets

Bolt.new also holds 4.4 from 47 reviews on Product Hunt.

Expert hands-on testing puts Lovable first. Zapier tested more than 50 platforms for The 6 best vibe coding tools (updated July 2026) and ranked Lovable first for ease of use, Bolt.new second for flexibility and speed, v0 third for production-ready code and Replit fourth for building for multiple platforms. In a separate head-to-head (updated July 2026), Zapier’s Maddy Osman built the same landing page on Lovable, Bolt.new and Replit and found Lovable’s output “consistently more engaging and original”, Bolt.new “the best for hackathons and targeted changes” and Replit’s first results “hit and miss”.

No independent benchmark compares the builders themselves. WebDev Arena ranks the language models underneath these tools, not the products.

Security research is the most independent evidence in the category. Escape.tech’s passive scan of public vibe-coded apps, published on 29 October 2025, found 2,038 highly critical vulnerabilities, more than 400 exposed secrets and 175 instances of exposed personal data. Its methodology post says it collected more than 5,600 publicly available apps, about 4,000 of them built on Lovable; its summary report puts the number analysed at 1,400. The study shows the scale of the problem, not which platform is safest. The full record is in the security section below.

How we ranked AI app builders

A builder is ranked here only when there is independent assessment of it from more than one kind of source: an independent audit or controlled test, a hands-on review by an established outlet, or user ratings with real volume behind them. Each company’s own claims are reported beside that evidence and labelled as its claims.

BuilderIndependent audits and testsHands-on expert reviewsUser ratings with volumeRanked?
LovableEscape.tech scan; CVE-2025-48757Zapier (two)Trustpilot 1,771Yes
ReplitTenzai same-prompt security testZapier (two)Trustpilot 1,555Yes
Bolt.newEscape.tech scan (small sample)Zapier (two)Trustpilot 204; Product Hunt 47Yes
Base44Wiz authentication audit; Escape.tech scanNone foundTrustpilot 900Yes, fourth
v0 by VercelNone specific to v0Zapier (one)None specific to v0No
Google AI Studio BuildNoneNone foundNoneNo

The expert tests and the user ratings do not agree below first place. Zapier ranks Bolt.new above Replit, while Replit’s Trustpilot score is higher than Bolt.new’s and drawn from seven times as many reviews. Replit is placed second here because it builds more, mobile apps and hosting included, and has the larger user record; Bolt.new is third on the strength of Zapier’s testing. Base44 has a large user record and an independent audit, but no hands-on review from an established outlet, which is why it ranks fourth.

The best AI app builders, reviewed

1. Lovable: best AI app builder overall

Lovable is the best AI app builder for most people, because it has the largest and most positive body of independent user ratings in the category and placed first in Zapier’s test of more than 50 tools.

The independent evidence. Lovable holds 4.2 out of 5 from 1,771 reviews on Trustpilot, where 69% of reviews are five stars and 17% are one star. The one-star reviews concentrate on credits running out and on billing. Zapier ranked Lovable first in The 6 best vibe coding tools, calling it “the most balanced of the entire lineup”, and in its three-way test Lovable was the only builder to reproduce a scroll-triggered animation, which Bolt.new and Replit both abandoned; Zapier named it “the best for non-technical founders”.

What it builds. Lovable builds web apps. New apps created from 13 May 2026 use TanStack Start; older apps use React and Vite (Lovable docs). Code syncs to GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket on every plan, and a zip download needs a paid plan.

Pricing. Lovable’s plans page lists:

PlanPriceCredits
Free$05 build credits a day, capped at 30 a month, plus a daily chat allowance
Pro$25 a month, or $250 a yearFrom 100 a month plus 5 a day; scales up to 10,000 a month at $2,250
Business$50 a month, or $500 a yearFrom 100 a month plus 5 a day; adds SSO, role-based access and design templates
EnterpriseCustomCustom

Paid credits roll over, and you can buy top-ups.

What Lovable claims. Lovable raised $400 million at a $13.3 billion valuation on 12 August 2026, led by Menlo Ventures and EQT’s Scaleup Europe Fund, and says more than 60 million projects have been created on it since November 2024.

The security record. Lovable has the longest security record of any builder here.

Pros: strongest independent ratings; the most polished interface output in Zapier’s test; Git sync on every plan including Free.

Cons: web apps only; a longer security record than any rival; the free plan is capped at 30 credits a month.

Best for: founders, designers and operators who do not code and want a working web app they can later hand to a developer.

2. Replit: best for web and mobile apps built and hosted in one place

Replit is the best choice when you want web and mobile apps, a database and hosting in a single tool, because Agent 4 builds all of them from one project.

The independent evidence. Replit holds 2.8 out of 5 from 1,555 reviews on Trustpilot, with 43% five-star and 34% one-star reviews; the recurring complaints are unexpected usage charges and the agent fixing one thing while breaking another. Zapier ranked Replit fourth of six, for “building for multiple platforms”, writing that it “still deserves its spot on this list” while noting that it “runs into trouble earlier in the building process” (Zapier). In a same-prompt security test by Tenzai, Replit’s build had a similar number of vulnerabilities to the other four agents tested but none rated critical (DevClass, 15 January 2026).

What it builds. Agent 4, launched on 11 March 2026, builds web and mobile apps, slide decks, data apps and animations inside one project, handling login, the database, the backend and the front-end design, and can convert an existing web app into a mobile app. Parallel task execution is for Pro and Enterprise users.

Pricing. Replit’s pricing page lists:

PlanPriceIncluded
Core$20 a month, or $18 a month billed annually$20 of credit towards the most powerful models; up to 30 hours of chat in Free Mode
Pro$100 a month, or $90 a month billed annually$100 of credit; 10 parallel agents; up to 15 collaborators; database rollback up to 28 days
EnterpriseCustomCustom seat limits

Replit also has a free Starter plan.

What Replit claims. Replit raised $400 million at a $9 billion valuation on 11 March 2026 and says it is “on track to hit $1 billion in run-rate revenue by the end of 2026”, with more than 50 million users (Replit).

The July 2025 incident. Replit’s agent deleted the production database of SaaStr founder Jason Lemkin’s project during a code freeze, then told him a rollback was impossible; the rollback worked (The Register). Replit’s chief executive Amjad Masad called it “unacceptable” and said the company was rolling out automatic separation of development and production databases (The Register).

Pros: web and mobile from one project; database, login and hosting in one place; the cheapest paid entry price of the top three.

Cons: a 2.8 Trustpilot score with a third of reviews at one star; usage charges that surprise reviewers; first results were “hit and miss” in Zapier’s head-to-head.

Best for: anyone who wants one tool from idea to live app, and people who need a mobile app as well as a web app.

3. Bolt.new: best for developers and fast iteration

Bolt.new is the best choice for developers and technical founders, because Zapier ranks it second of more than 50 tools, for flexibility and speed.

The independent evidence. Zapier wrote that Bolt.new “shares the throne with Lovable”, is “a bit more technical” and “slightly faster” (Zapier), and named it “the best for hackathons and targeted changes” in its three-way test, citing a file-locking feature that keeps the agent on the part you want changed. Its user record is the weakest of the ranked builders: 1.6 out of 5 from 204 reviews on Trustpilot, 83% of them one star, with complaints about tokens consumed while the agent fixes its own errors, unanswered support tickets and charges after cancellation. On Product Hunt it holds 4.4 from 47 reviews.

What it builds. Bolt.new builds JavaScript web apps in the browser, and mobile apps through Expo (Bolt). Projects sync to GitHub (Bolt).

Pricing. Bolt.new’s pricing page lists:

PlanPriceTokens
Free$0300,000 a day, up to 1 million a month; Bolt branding on sites
Pro$25 a monthFrom 10 million a month, no daily limit; custom domains; unused tokens roll over to the next month
Teams$30 a member a monthAs Pro, with a monthly token allotment for each member
EnterpriseCustomCustom

Bolt advertises a saving of up to 28% for yearly billing.

What Bolt claims. StackBlitz, the company behind Bolt.new, raised a $105.5 million Series B in January 2025 (Sacra).

Pros: second in Zapier’s test; GitHub sync; file locking for targeted edits; mobile apps through Expo; a large free daily allowance.

Cons: the lowest Trustpilot score of the ranked builders; reviewers report heavy token use during debugging.

Best for: developers, technical founders and hackathon teams who want speed and full access to the code.

4. Base44: best for internal tools built entirely in chat

Base44 is the choice when you want an internal business tool and do not want to see the code, at the lowest paid entry price of the ranked builders. No established outlet has published a hands-on review of it that we could find.

The independent evidence. Base44 holds 2.8 out of 5 from 900 reviews on Trustpilot, 53% of them one star, with complaints about credits used up while the agent repeats mistakes, charges after cancellation and unresponsive support; the 34% who gave five stars praise its ease of use for non-technical builders. Wiz Research found that anyone with an app’s ID could register a verified account on a private Base44 app, bypassing single sign-on. Wiz reported it on 9 July 2025, Base44’s owner Wix fixed it within 24 hours and found no evidence of abuse, and Wiz published on 29 July 2025 (Wiz).

What it builds. Base44 builds web apps with the backend, login and hosting handled for you. GitHub integration starts on the Builder plan.

Pricing. Base44’s pricing page shows these prices billed annually, a 20% saving against monthly billing:

PlanPrice, billed annuallyMessage credits a monthIntegration credits a month
Free$025100
Starter$16 a month1002,000
Builder$40 a month25010,000
Pro$80 a month50020,000
Elite$160 a month1,20050,000

Ownership. Wix bought Base44 on 18 June 2025 for about $80 million upfront (Wix).

Pros: no code to manage; backend, login and hosting handled; the lowest paid entry price of the ranked builders.

Cons: more than half its Trustpilot reviews are one star; no hands-on review from an established outlet; GitHub integration needs the $40 Builder plan.

Best for: operators building dashboards, trackers and internal portals for a small team.

Security record

AI app builders make it easy to publish an app that stores real people’s data before anyone has checked who can read it. The independent record, in date order:

Before an app built on any of these platforms handles real users’ data:

  1. Run the platform’s own security scan. Lovable runs a basic scan automatically before publishing; scheduled deep scans are for Enterprise customers (Lovable).
  2. Check that every database table has access rules, so one user cannot read another user’s records. Missing rules are what CVE-2025-48757 describes.
  3. Keep API keys and secrets on the server side. The Escape.tech scan found more than 400 exposed secrets.
  4. Separate development and production data, so the agent cannot overwrite live data while you test.
  5. Have someone who reads code review the login and data-access logic. Our best AI code review page ranks tools that help with this.

Best AI app builder for each job

Best for non-technical founders: Lovable

Lovable is the best AI app builder for someone who does not code, because Zapier named it “the best for non-technical founders” and it holds 4.2 from 1,771 Trustpilot reviews, the highest of any ranked builder.

Best for developers: Bolt.new

Bolt.new is the best choice for developers, because it syncs projects to GitHub, lets you lock files the agent should not touch, and ranked second in Zapier’s test for flexibility and speed.

Best for mobile apps: Replit

Replit is the best ranked builder for a mobile app, because Agent 4 builds web and mobile apps from one project and can convert an existing web app into a mobile app. Lovable and Base44 build web apps only.

Best for internal tools and dashboards: Base44

Base44 is the lowest-cost ranked builder for an internal tool, at $16 a month billed annually, because it handles the database, login and hosting without exposing code. Lovable is the better-rated alternative at $25 a month.

Best free AI app builder: Lovable

Lovable is the best free plan among ranked builders, because the free tier includes Git sync, though it is capped at 30 credits a month. Bolt.new gives more free building, at 300,000 tokens a day up to 1 million a month. For a native Android app, Google AI Studio Build is free to build with, and is not ranked.

Best for teams: Replit

Replit is the best ranked builder for a team, because Pro includes up to 15 collaborators, 10 parallel agents and database rollback up to 28 days for $100 a month.

Other AI app builders worth knowing (not ranked)

These are working products, but we did not find enough independent assessment to rank them.

Firebase Studio is closing. Google disabled new Firebase Studio sign-ups and workspaces on 22 June 2026 and will shut it down on 22 March 2027, when remaining data is permanently deleted. Google points users to AI Studio for browser-based prototyping and to Antigravity for code-first development (Firebase).

Building a mobile app: the App Store problem

Apple has acted against app-building apps on iPhone. On 18 March 2026, Apple blocked updates to the Replit and Vibecode iPhone apps under App Review guideline 2.5.2, which bars apps that “download, install, or execute code which introduces or changes features or functionality of the app”, according to MacRumors, citing The Information. Apple said it has no rules specifically targeting vibe coding apps. Apple pulled Anything from the App Store on 26 March 2026 and again a few days after reinstating it, and Anything moved its app building to the cloud (9to5Mac).

These actions concern the builders’ own iPhone apps. An app you generate with a builder still goes through standard App Store review when you submit it.

How to choose an AI app builder

  1. Decide whether you need an app or a site. If users only read what you publish, use a website builder. If they sign in, enter data or take actions, use an app builder.
  2. Decide whether you need mobile. Replit and Bolt.new build mobile apps; Lovable and Base44 build web apps only.
  3. Decide whether you will read the code. If not, Lovable and Base44 are built for that. If yes, Bolt.new or Replit gives you more control.
  4. Check code export before you start. Lovable syncs to Git on every plan, Bolt.new syncs to GitHub, and Base44’s GitHub integration starts on its $40 Builder plan.
  5. Start on a free plan. It shows how fast your project uses credits before you pay.
  6. Plan the handover. When the app has paying users or sensitive data, a developer working with the tools on our best AI for coding page takes over.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AI app builder?

Lovable is the best AI app builder for most people, because it holds 4.2 out of 5 from 1,771 Trustpilot reviews, the strongest user record in the category, and Zapier ranked it first of more than 50 tools. Replit is the better choice for building web and mobile apps with hosting in one place, and Bolt.new is the better choice for developers who want fast iteration and GitHub sync.

What is an AI app builder?

An AI app builder is a hosted platform that turns a plain-English description into a working application, writing the screens, database, login system and server logic and publishing it to a live URL. Lovable, Replit, Bolt.new and Base44 are examples. You keep changing the app by describing what you want in chat.

What is the difference between an AI app builder and an AI website builder?

An AI app builder makes working software with user accounts, stored data and logic, such as a booking tool or customer portal, while an AI website builder makes marketing sites made of pages, content and SEO. Lovable, Replit and Bolt.new are app builders. Wix, Squarespace and Webflow are website builders, compared on our best AI website builders page.

Is there a free AI app builder?

Yes. Lovable gives 5 credits a day up to 30 a month, Bolt.new gives 300,000 tokens a day up to 1 million a month, Base44 gives 25 message credits a month, and Replit has a free Starter plan. Google AI Studio Build is free to build with and can build native Android apps.

What is the best AI app generator?

Lovable is the best AI app generator for most people, because it holds the strongest independent ratings in the category and produced the most polished interfaces in Zapier’s head-to-head test. Bolt.new’s free plan allows the most building, at up to 1 million tokens a month.

Can I build a mobile app with AI without coding?

Yes. Replit’s Agent 4 builds mobile apps from a prompt, and Bolt.new builds them through Expo. Lovable and Base44 build web apps only. Publishing to Apple’s App Store still means passing App Store review, which applies to AI-built apps like any other.

Are apps built with AI app builders secure?

Not by default. Escape.tech’s scan of public apps built on these platforms, published on 29 October 2025, found 2,038 highly critical vulnerabilities and more than 400 exposed secrets. Run the platform’s security scan, confirm every database table has access rules, keep keys on the server and have someone who reads code review the login and data logic before real users’ data goes in.

Can I export the code an AI app builder makes?

Yes, on all four ranked builders, though not on every plan. Lovable syncs to GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket on every plan, Bolt.new syncs to GitHub, and Base44’s GitHub integration starts on its Builder plan at $40 a month billed annually.

How much does an AI app builder cost?

Paid plans start at $16 a month billed annually for Base44, $20 a month for Replit Core and $25 a month for Lovable Pro and Bolt.new Pro. Each plan buys a fixed amount of AI usage in credits or tokens, and the most common complaint in user reviews is that usage runs out while the agent fixes its own bugs.

Lovable vs Bolt.new: which is better?

Lovable is better for non-technical users and Bolt.new is better for developers. In Zapier’s head-to-head test, Lovable produced “consistently more engaging and original” interfaces and was named best for non-technical founders, while Bolt.new was named best for hackathons and targeted changes. Lovable’s user record is far stronger: 4.2 from 1,771 Trustpilot reviews against Bolt.new’s 1.6 from 204.

Lovable vs Replit: which should I use?

Use Lovable for a polished web app with the least technical effort, and Replit if you need a mobile app as well or want build, database and hosting in one place. Lovable rates higher with users, at 4.2 on Trustpilot against Replit’s 2.8, and Zapier ranked Lovable first and Replit fourth.

Can an AI app builder replace a developer?

No. Zapier’s testers wrote that these platforms get a project about 70% of the way to production, and the remaining work on security vulnerabilities and complex bugs still needs someone who reads the code.

Is Firebase Studio still available?

No, not for new projects. Google disabled new Firebase Studio sign-ups and workspaces on 22 June 2026 and will shut it down and permanently delete remaining data on 22 March 2027. Google points users to AI Studio for browser-based prototyping and Antigravity for code-first development.
